For many, a trip to southeast Asia is a transformative experience – a rediscovery of youth and wonder, and a reminder of the true meaning of being present in the moment. While its allure is undeniable, planning a trip to such a vast and diverse destination can feel overwhelming.
That’s where Oroko Travel steps in. As experts in crafting luxury, tailor-made holidays, the team specialises in curating once-in-a-lifetime holiday experiences around the world. For Adam Kennedy, one of their passionate southeast Asia travel specialists, the region has become an integral part of his personal journey – a place he often returns to and once called home. Today, Adam is excited to share some of his insights, hoping to inspire others to discover the region he loves so much.
Southeast Asia’s magnetic allure

Adam’s first visit was a sensory overload in the best way possible. “I landed in Hong Kong, and it felt like a whole different world – people everywhere, cars, bikes, neon lights and the sheer energy of the place,” he recalls. That sense of wonder deepened as he explored the likes of Bangkok and Singapore. “Each place had its own character, but the feeling of adventure remained constant – exciting, unpredictable and endlessly fascinating.”
But what truly makes southeast Asia so magnetic, Adam believes, is not just its stunning landscapes or cosmopolitan cities – but the warmth of its people. “You don’t just pass through; you build relationships,” he shares. “Whenever I go back, I meet up with friends I’ve made over the years – even restaurant staff remember my name. It’s that warmth that makes the region feel like a second home.” It offers a rare sense of community that feels scarce in today’s increasingly fast-paced, individualistic world. “It’s the kind of place that helps you find something you maybe didn’t even realise you lost in the first place,” Adam explains. “That’s what makes southeast Asia truly special.”
Creating unforgettable memories
Even for seasoned travellers who think they’ve seen it all, Oroko provides a fresh perspective. “We take the time to understand what excites our clients and what they’ve loved before, then introduce them to new destinations that match their interests. There are so many hidden gems, especially in places like the Philippines, which are still relatively undiscovered by the Irish market.”
For Adam, some of the most memorable moments aren’t even about visiting famous landmarks, but the small, unexpected experiences. One of his most unforgettable memories was in Khao Lak, Thailand. “I was floating in the water at sunset, watching the sky turn an unreal shade of orange. For the first time in a long time, my mind was completely still. It was pure peace. Many of our clients lead incredibly busy lives, but when they come here, they completely switch off. It’s like pressing reset.”

“Thailand is one of my top destinations to visit, and if I were to go back, I’d combine Bangkok, Krabi and Khao Lak,” says Adam. “It’s home to some of my favourite properties, like Rayavadee in Krabi, which is incredible. But, my personal favourite is Devasom in Khao Lak. Its location, design and exceptional service make it truly one-of-a-kind.” For the ultimate experience, Adam recommends combining stays at both properties to get the best of both worlds.
Beyond luxury accommodations, no trip to southeast Asia is complete without indulging in the unforgettable local flavours. Through Oroko Travel’s personalised app, clients gain access to the best dining spots, from hidden local gems to Michelin-starred restaurants. The team can also arrange private cooking classes, market visits and authentic street food tours to allow you to fully experience the local culinary scene. For a truly exceptional dining experience, Adam recommends a sunset reservation at Vertigo in Bangkok: “The view of the city transforming from golden hues to a twinkling metropolis is an experience in itself.”
A lasting impact

Ultimately, Oroko Travel’s goal is for their clients to return home feeling transformed, carrying with them not just memories but a newfound perspective. “I hope they come back feeling more alive, more in touch with themselves and with a renewed appreciation for the world,” Adam says. “More than anything, I want them to come back and immediately start thinking about when they can go again,” he says. “One client told me, ‘Adam, I still haven’t come down from the ceiling!’ That’s what we strive for – that feeling of euphoria, of having experienced something truly special.”
